DC Studios chief James Gunn has shared the first set photo from “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” specifically a behind-the-scenes shot showing what appears to be Milly Alcock sitting in a director’s chair

The shot also reveals the logo that Supergirl will be using in the film. Gunn shared the photo on social media to indicate the film’s official production start.

In his posting, Gunn praised the film’s director Craig Gillespie, star Alcock, and what he believes will be a ‘unique’ story featuring the comic book character.

Inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Eisner-nominated 2021 comic book mini-series, that comic sees Kara Zor-El/Supergirl travelling across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog.

Along the way, she meets a young noble and honorable warrior named Ruthye (Eve Ridley) and the two women set out to hunt down a villain.

Matthias Schoenaerts will play the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. Krem is a skilled and ruthless swordsman and archer who killed Ruthye’s father in cold blood and injured Krypto.

David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham signed on last week to play Kara’s Kryptonian parents, while Jason Momoa will make a cameo as alien bounty hunter Lobo.

Gillespie is directing from a script adapted by playwright Ana Nogueira. Check out the set photo for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” below, the film opens in late 2026.

Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El. Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom… pic.twitter.com/za9Tr8Vryr
