Matthew Ball of Epyllion has released his annual State of Video Gaming (via The Direct) report and claims that a higher price tag for “Grand Theft Auto VI,” as high as $100, could mark a shift for the industry.

Talking about how the gaming industry could change in the new year, there’s little doubt that Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto VI” will be the biggest title to hit in 2025 – assuming it makes that date.

Whenever it does, the report says there is “hope” within the video game industry that publisher Take-Two could use the opportunity to raise the default price of the game to “$80 or even $100”.

This would mark a turning point for gaming, allowing other companies to raise their default prices to combat global inflation and rising AAA development costs.

GTA6 will sell millions of copies either way, but price raises in this industry are hard-won. For many years, $60 was the standard until relatively recently, when $70 became the new norm – Take-Two being one of the first to incorporate that rise.

Gaming budgets have exploded in recent years, and expectations for the amount of content a game can include have skyrocketed.
