Famed filmmaker Spike Lee is reportedly developing the comedic military drama feature “Liberty” which he’ll produce and possibly direct.

Deadline broke the news, saying the project is a pitch from military veterans and writers Rebecca Murga and Jalysa Conway who will pen the script.

The film is said to be in the vein of Hal Ashby’s Oscar-nominated 1973 Navy dramedy “The Last Detail” starring Jack Nicholson and following a group of cadets on a crazy night in New York City.

This marks the second project Lee, Murga and Conway are developing, the first is a coming-of-age Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)-themed drama series for Amazon.

Murga has been a writer on ABC’s “Will Trent” and Apple TV+ series “Swagger,” Conway has been a supervising producer on “911: Lone Star” and a writer on “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Lee and Steven Jackson will produce via their 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks label. Lee most recently filmed “Highest 2 Lowest,” a Denzel Washington-led crime thriller remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic “High and Low”.
