The second season of the acclaimed Apple TV+ sci-fi series “Silo” comes to an end this Friday on the service, with two more seasons greenlit and confirmed to be finishing the show.
What those seasons will contain is the big question though. The series is based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey – “Wool,” “Shift” and “Dust” and the first two seasons of the series adapts “Wool”.
The complication is that “Shift” serves entirely as a prequel to “Wool” and so Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette character barely appears while the overall arc is much more about world building and backstory filling than character drama.
The third novel “Dust” resumes events after “Wool” but characters and elements from “Shift” are key to things happening in “Dust”. So will they simply sideline Juliette next season?
Series showrunner Graham Yost tells TV Line there are no such plans to so that, but won’t exactly spill how they intend to get around the structural issues they face with the novels:
“In the book Shift, Juliette doesn’t appear until like the last page, right? It’s about this silo [No. 18], but it’s also the origin story of the whole silo project. I would say that we have Rebecca Ferguson playing Juliette, and she is not just going to be in the last scene of the season…Juliette would be a big part [of Season 3]”.
Both seasons of the series have scored strong acclaim from critics. The second season will be available in full to binge watch from January 17th.
