“Screamboat,” the horror film inspired by the 1928 first Mickey Mouse cartoon “Steamboat Willie” which entered the public domain last January, has been pushed back.
Iconic Events Releasing has shifted the U.S. theatrical release of the film from late January to April, and have unveiled the first photo of the killer mouse in the movie.
David Howard Thornton, best known for playing Art the Clown in the ultra-gory “Terrifier” franchise, will play the mouse Willie and looks appropriately silly for the film which will have dark comedy elements.
In the film, a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride that turns deadly when a mischievous mouse begins a rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers.
The unlikely crew must band together to thwart the murderous menace before their relaxing commute turns into a nightmare. Also starring are former “Teen Wolf” series leading man Tyler Posey and his brother Jesse Posey along with Kailey Hyman, Allison Pittel, Amy Schumacher, Rumi C. Jean-Louis, Jesse Kove, Jarlath Conroy and Charles Edwin Powell.
Steven LaMorte is directing from a script co-written with Matthew Garcia-Dunn. Quantum Creation FX is handling the practical effects involving the mouse.
Several pre-screening events will take place across the U.S. ahead of the April release.
