Really? Really? Right now we have to file this one under “We Will Believe It When We See It”, but this is Hollywood, so there are no guarantees of sanity. Either way, this is a weird rumor. We already knew from just under a year ago that The Martian writer Drew Goddard was being set to direct a new entry in The Matrix franchise for Warner Bros. Pictures.
This is the first time the Wachowski sisters/brothers (your mileage may vary) have not been fully involved, other than as an executive producer. Nobody knows if it is a reboot or a spin-off, but an online rumor is out there.
According to @MyTimeToShineH the Wicked actress and multi-million-selling recording artist, the doe-eyed sandwich dodger herself, Ariana Grande is in line to appear in it. The rumor says she is being “eyed for a leading role”.
Somebody took the green pill.
It seems like Wicked has got Grande on the radar of Hollywood, but this is a big change of tone and scene. Last week Will Smith teased something Matrix-related via social media. Smith famously turned down the role of Neo to go and make Wild, Wild West. That didn’t work out to be a good choice, as the franchise went on to make Keanu Reeves a household name.
Is it related? Is this reality? Or are we all just batteries? They had better hurry up and decide as my charge is decreasing significantly as the years pass. I might need a jumpstart myself soon.
In this world of AI and robotics, is The Matrix relevant again? The last instalment was something of a disaster and the 1990s techno-punk aesthetic and cod-philosophy all seem a bit tragic now.
Or maybe, that is just what the machines want us to think.
