With James Gunn’s DC Universe, characters can make the transition between live-action and animation without issue. That means the voice actors in Max’s recent “Creature Commandos” animated series could appear as their characters in live-action form.
We’ve already seen it as “Peacemaker” & “The Suicide Squad” cast members like Viola Davis and Steve Agee reprise their roles in animated form on ‘Commandos’ while Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is set to appear in both “Superman” and “Peacemaker” Season 2 after being introduced in ‘Commandos’.
“Game of Thrones” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actress Indira Varma, who voices The Bride in “Creature Commandos,” recently discussed the possibility of reprising her role in live-action with EW and says she’s all for trying to translate the character into live-action: “Yeah, of course! I’m only human. Have you seen what she looks like?.”
Varma adds that the show’s first season is really just the ‘introduction’ of the Bride and further works with her character will see her grow: “She’s becoming someone who might be able to get over her trauma and start seeing the world in a slightly more positive way.”
Varma also praised her co-star Zoë Chao who voiced the aquatic character Nina Mazursky, saying: “We got to play off each other. Zoe’s character is so soft and sweet, she’s a really great foil for the Bride’s attitude of ‘f— life, this is all s—‘. It’s only when Nina’s in trouble that things fall into place and it’s like an awakening. She realizes that she can be more than just a killing machine.”
Gunn himself has also spoken with Rotten Tomatoes about the new Creature Commandos team left at the end of Season 1, confirming the King Shark we meet is the same one from Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” film – albeit here Diedrich Bader doing a Stallone impression.
The full seven episode season of “Creature Commandos” is now available on Max.
