Filmmaker Paul Feig has shot down a rumor that the sequel to his acclaimed 2018 dark comedy crime thriller “A Simple Favor” has been indefinitely delayed by Amazon.
A scooper called EricB claimed that Amazon shelved the already shot film due to drama surrounding one of its stars, Blake Lively, and the legal fallout over her case against her “It Ends with Us” co-star Justin Baldoni.
The scooper said despite glowing test screenings, Lively’s “refusal to promote” the film and “growing tensions” with her co-star Anna Kendrick have derailed the sequel, adding “this isn’t just a movie – it’s an implosion.”
Feig himself has now responded multiple times to that posting, clearly denying any issue with the film’s release and saying on X:
“This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.”
Then asked to clarify why Amazon had not yet set a release date for the film, Feig replied on X:
“My friend, it’s called post production, which generally takes over half a year at least when you factor in editing, scoring, special effects, sound mixing, close captioning and all the technical quality control that has to be done.
Our post schedule always had us finishing everything by mid-January. Movies don’t come out the second they’re finished because the studio spends the previous year deciding the best date to release it. We’ve always planned on something in the spring/summer of this year. That’s how movies work. I hope this helps.”
The sequel will follow Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, murder and betrayal swirl at a wedding.
Henry Golding, Alison Janney, Elizabeth Perkins, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, Kelly McCormack, Aparna Nancherla, Elena Sofia Ricci, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Taylor Ortega and Lorenzo de Moor co-star.
