Rory McCann, the tall Scottish actor best know for his role as Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” has reportedly joined the cast of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” for the show’s second season.
The InSneider broke the news, reporting that McCann will step into the role of Baylan Skoll, the former Jedi Knight turned mercenary played by the late Ray Stevenson in the first season of the series. Stevenson passed away shortly after filming his role.
The first season of the series ends with several characters trapped in an entirely different galaxy while the exiled Grand Admiral Thrawn has made his way back to the main “Star Wars” one – setting the stage for Filoni to do his spin on the famed “Heir to the Empire” storyline.
At the end of the first season, Skoll is now on the planet of Peridea in the remote galaxy off on a journey on his own – discovering the giant statues of the Mortis gods pointing towards a far off mountain emitting a blink light.
Filming on the second season is expected to begin in April 2025 in the United Kingdom ahead of a likely late 2026 release. The production is moving there after filming the first season at Manhattan Beach Studios in Los Angeles.
Whereas the first season was filmed almost entirely with StageCraft tech, the second season will reportedly utilize multiple different film techniques. It’s also expected to not end on a cliffhanger like the first season does.
McCann first acted in David McKenzie’s “Young Adam” and Oliver Stone’s “Alexander” along with guest roles on TV including a memorable turn in the first episode of “State of Play” and roles in shows like “The Jury,” “Banised,” “The Irregulars,” “The Legend of Vox Machina,” and last year’s “Knuckles”.
Other film credits include “Hot Fuzz,” “Clash of the Titans,” “XXX: Return of Xander Cage,” “Season of the Witch,” “Solomon Kane,” “Jumanji: The Next Level” and last year’s “Gladiator II”.
