The scenes coming out of Los Angeles continue to resemble something out of a Hollywood disaster movie rather than a news report. What started in Pacific Palisades seems to be spreading with new fires springing up in several locations across the city.
LA Mayor Karen Bass is taking flak over her decision to cut millions of dollars in funding from the budget of the fire department. There has also been criticism of other parts of various administrations. From a policy of no controlled burns to clear brush from forest floors to decisions taken around the water supply, the post-mortem from this will be harsh.
As the fires spread, they are now threatening landmarks such as the iconic Hollywood sign. Several Hollywood studios suspended production, and Universal Studios closed its theme park between Pasadena and Pacific Palisades. Another fire appears to have broken out in the vicinity of Studio City, meaning some production facilities could be directly threatened.
Even worse than that, the beloved Bunny Museum containing the world’s largest collection of rabbit memorabilia has burned to the ground.

The impact has even been felt at the Oscars, where ithas just been announced that the Oscar nominations reveal has been delayed to January 19th, and the deadline for Oscar nomination voting has been extended by two days.
10,000 Academy members get to vote on nominations, and thousands of them live in and around Los Angeles. Voting will now close on the 14th January instead.
The official announcement of nominees has been moved from Friday January 17th to Sunday January 19th.
According to reports, Adam Brody, Anna Faris, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy and Cary Elwes have all lost homes in the fires. Many of them might not be able to claim on their insurance as California Governor Gary Newsom recently introduced premium caps, meaning that insurance companies could not adequately rate and price for fire cover in many of these areas so had to cancel and withdraw from offering insurance in regions at risk of fire.
The premiere of The Wolf Man has been cancelled, and the Critics Choice Awards have been postponed from this Sunday.
