Colman Domingo is set to play the host of the dangerous game show at the heart of Edgar Wright’s new take on “The Running Man”.
Set in a dystopian America, the story centers on a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.
Glen Powell has the lead role in the film based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The work was previously turned into a 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Co-stars include Josh Brolin, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra. It was speculated Brolin was playing the host but that’s not the case.
In Wright’s version, a TV executive played by Brolin will serve as more of the central villain with the show’s host more a secondary one.
Wright is directing and co-writing the script with Michael Bacall, and will produce with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. The new “The Running Man” opens in cinemas on November 7th 2025.
