Actor Taylor Kitsch has revealed that he has been contacted in regards to starring in the upcoming reboot of “Friday Night Lights” at Peacock.

Universal Television is currently planning a new version of the acclaimed 2006-2011 sports drama series which they also produced. Peacock secured the rights to the new version last month.

The new take is set in the wake of a devastating hurricane as a ragtag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas high school state championship.

They soon become a beacon of light for their town which won’t be the fictional Dillon, Texas town of the original and rather something closer to the state’s Gulf Coast.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw this week to promote his Netflix miniseries “American Primeval,” Kitsch says: “I’ve been asked, and we’ll leave it at that” before confirming it was “to be a part of some kind of reboot” of FNL.

He adds that he’s “always flattered” about being asked, but if he does return it likely won’t be for long:

“Never say never, but I would come in and do something, maybe for an episode or something, but I don’t wanna go and do the whole thing. I’d go and have fun but I don’t want to lead an FNL reboot or anything. I love the continuously challenging roles and to keep pushing.”

Kitsch played Tim Riggins throughout the original show’s five-season run. Much of the original show’s creative team is back including series creator and pilot director Peter Berg, showrunner Jason Katims and executive producer Brian Grazer with all three to executive produce and Katims to once again serve as showrunner.
