The announcement of the Oscar nominations has been delayed to January 19th, and the deadline for Oscar nomination voting has been extended two days due to the fires currently ravaging Southern California.

Voting for the nearly 10,000 Academy members opened January 8 and was originally set to close on January 12th – that closure will now happen on January 14th.

The nominations announcement, originally scheduled to be announced on Friday January 17th, has moved to Sunday January 19th.

The delay comes as more than a thousand houses, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed in the fires across the Los Angeles region with fires burning and evacuations in the areas around Pacific Palisades, Santa Clarita and Pasadena. Homes of actors like Adam Brody, Anna Faris, James Woods, and songwriter Diane Warren have been lost in the blaze so far.

The fires have impacted multiple events. Premieres for films like “The Wolf Man,” “The Pitt” and “Unstoppable” have been cancelled, production on shows like “Fallout,” “Hacks” and “Suits L.A.” have been paused, and the Critics Choice Awards originally slated for this coming Sunday have been postponed.

Conan O’Brien will host the 2025 Oscars ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on March 2nd.
