Still more news is coming out of Sony’s CES 2025 press conference with two more high-profile projects set.
Sony Pictures is set to collaborate with Sony Productions to release live-action film adaptations of both the “Helldivers” and “Horizon: Zero Dawn” game franchises. No further details were offered about either film.
2024 game “Helldivers 2,” heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie “Starship Troopers,” follows soldiers struggling to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids.
It became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time with an incredible 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks.
2017’s action RPG “Horizon: Zero Dawn” follows Aloy, a young outcast who sets out to unravel the mysteries behind her robot dinosaur-filled, post-apocalyptic world.
The property has yielded multiple games so far and has become one of PlayStation’s signature properties, the first title selling 24.3 million copies over its first six years.
A TV series based on that property was in the works at Netflix with “The Umbrella Academy” creator Steve Blackman, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.
Sony will release a film based on their horror game “Until Dawn” this year, and today have confirmed that one is set within the same world as the games but will follow new characters and setting.
