HBO’s “The Penguin” showrunner Lauren LeFranc has shot down one fan theory regarding the TV series that has been floating around the past month or so.
That theory? The character of Julian Rush, played by “Sons of Anarchy” alum Theo Rossi in the show’s fourth episode, is famed Batman villain The Scarecrow.
This was due to a mask and gloves that resemble Scarecrow’s outfit appearing within Rush’s office. Speaking with ScreenRant, LeFranc squashes that talk succinctly: “Well, I can say he’s not the Scarecrow.”
Separately, filmmaker Matt Reeves offered an update on how the show’s second season is going. An executive producer on the series, Reeves tells THR:
“Well, we are talking about doing another season. Lauren and Dylan and I and Colin are talking about what we would do and it’s really about coming up with the right idea and also about the timing. We’re doing The Batman Part II so it’s about how all that fits together.”
Fellow executive producer Dylan Clark echoed similar sentiments in a separate interview with TV Line:
“If we could come up with an idea for what a second season might be, there’s a chance that [HBO CEO] Casey Bloys and the HBO team would want to pursue that. There have been quiet conversations about that.”
“The Penguin” was conceived as a limited series and premiered on HBO and Max in September, with Colin Farrell winning a Best Actor – Limited Series Golden Globe last night for his work on the show.
