Remember when Lucasfilm was bought by Disney and then, at a stroke, put a red line through huge swathes of the Star Wars expanded universe and decided to paddle their own canoe? We all saw how that went for them. So it is no surprise to see focus now turning to some of what could be considered some old favorites – like Knight Of The Old Republic.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (also known as KOTOR) was a role-playing video created by BioWare
The game’s system is based on Wizards of the Coast’s Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which is based on the d20 role-playing game system derived from the Third Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules. Combat is round-based.
Knights Of The Old Republic is set four thousand years prior to the Star Wars films. Darth Malak, Darth Revan’s apprentice, unleashed a Sith armada against the Old Republic. Many Jedi, scattered and left vulnerable by Malak’s aggression, die in battle while others swear loyalty and allegiance to Malak.
The game opens with the player’s character awakening aboard a doomed Republic capital ship with no recollection of their past. After escaping the ship and crash-landing on Taris, the player gradually gathers companions and pieces together their past while attempting to stop Malak’s forces.
To accomplish this, the main character and their companions search for Star Maps that together reveal the location of the Star Forge, an ancient space station that creates massive amounts of material for Malak.
Obviously The Acolyte, their last attempt to go back in time to the High Republic era, didn’t go too well. Now scooper DanielRPK reports that Lucasfilm is looking to develop a show set during the Knights of the Old Republic era.
This won’t be a direct adaptation of the game but will include characters and rework elements of it, as Ahsoka did with some Heir To The Empire characters and events.
The original Knights Of The Old Republic game was released in 2003 to great acclaim and is still considered One of the greatest video games ever made. A screen adaption has long been rumored.
