Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” is reportedly set to begin filming as early as this month.
The Production Weekly listing for the film indicates the project’s shoot will run from January to April this year in the UK, Morocco and Italy.
If accurate, that’s a relatively fast shoot for a large scale ancient epic. Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” famously compressed its production schedule from 85 to 57 days in order to be completed on its tight $100 million budget.
“The Odyssey” likely has no such budget limitations with rumors suggesting it will be coming in at a cost of at least $250 million, but Nolan is still likely being tight on the production dates going by this plan.
Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o are all reportedly set to star in this adaptation of Homer’s 8th century BC epic poem.
A follow-up to “The Iliad” (which was adapted in 2004’s “Troy”), “The Odyssey” follows Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War and the many perils he and his crew encountered.
At the same time his wife and son must contend with a group of unruly suitors competing for Penelope’s hand in marriage.
