Indie filmmaker Jeff Baena, who directed comedies like “The Little Hours” and “Life After Beth,” has died. He was just 47.

TMZ broke the news this morning, indicating his body was discovered on Friday at a Los Angeles residence according to the coroner’s office. A cause of death was not immediately available.

A spokesperson for Baena subsequently confirmed his death. Baena was the husband of Aubrey Plaza who starred in those aforementioned two films which both scored good reviews – especially ‘Little Hours’ which was a spin on “The Decameron”.

Baena also directed the dark comedy “Spin Me Round” with Alison Brie, the dramedy “Joshy” with Thomas Middleditch, and the psychological drama “Horse Girl” again with Brie.

In addition to directing, Baena co-wrote David O. Russell’s 2004 feature “I Heart Huckabees” and created, wrote and produced the series “Cinema Toast” for Showtime.

Baena is survived by Plaza, as well as his mother, stepfather, stepmother and stepsiblings.
