He’s been rumored for years, but now it’s official – Jason Momoa as been cast as Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
Momoa, who played Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DCEU and closed off that universe with last year’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” has long wanted to play the alien biker character Lobo.
Today on Instagram, he shared a quote he said in a past interview with Fandango, saying:
“So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role. I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f–k yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
He captioned that quote with “they called”. The trades subsequently confirmed the news and indicate it’s expected Momoa will make his debut as Lobo in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.
Then, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn welcomed Momoa to the DCU with some new Momoa-themed Lobo artwork posted on his social media account.
In the comics, Lobo is an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter and also an antihero. “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” will be released in cinemas on June 26th 2026.
