Glen Powell is everywhere right now. Even back on your television. Hulu has released the teasiest of teaser trailers for the half-hour, episodic sports comedy Chad Powers.
Powell plays the lead, Russ Holliday. He was once bound for the NFL as a potential star quarterback until his behavior blew the opportunity.
In an effort to make a comeback, he disguises his true identity and joins a struggling Southern football team as Chad Powers, hidden behind prosthetics and a wig. Cue comedy, and probably some important life lessons told in a heartwarming yet amusing way.
Powell co-created the series with Michael Waldron (Loki). Among the money men is Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning, who executive produces the series via his Omaha Productions banner.
The series is based on the 2022 sketch produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions that aired on ESPN+ as part of Eli’s Places. On the show Manning, the retired NFL star, disguises himself as a character he calls Chad Powers and tries out for the Penn State football team.
Elsewhere, Powell was recently cast in the upcoming film Homewreckers, which is described as an erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist, with 9 1/2 Weeks, Ex Machina, and Fatal Attraction overtones. He is already shooting on Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man, which will see him take on the role of Ben Richards alongside Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, and Emilia Jones.
Powell is also attached to star in a remake of the 1978 comedy Heaven Can Wait, and has said a date is locked for Top Gun 3, but wouldn’t confirm any further details.
Other cast members in Chad Powers include Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez, and Steve Zahn. Chad Powers is set to premiere later in 2025.
