“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight has indicated to the U.K.’s Times Radio (via Deadline) that the upcoming film may not be its ending.
Knight confirmed that production on the film, titled “The Immortal Man,” wrapped ahead of the holidays, and though no release date has yet been set, he indicates it’ll likely be out around this time next year:
“It’s a bit too soon for that [date announcement], but you know, you can sort of work out that it will be about a year.”
Then asked whether there would be plans for more “Peaky Blinders” after the film, Knight responded:
“Well, it’s interesting you should ask that question because the film is coming out and that won’t be the end.”
Asked if further works will be film and TV, Knight kept quiet about what his plans might be:
“It won’t be the end, let me put it that way. I’m not saying none of it.”
One guess is the franchise could potentially take a “Downton Abbey” approach with film sequels every few years. The crime period drama ran for six seasons and a total of 36 episodes before ending in April 2022. Events in the series ran across the period between wars – 1919-1933.
The film is reportedly set several years later, right in the thick of World War Two. Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Jay Lycurgo and Tim Roth join the cast for the film with returnees including Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham, Ned Dennehy, Sophie Rundle, Packy Lee and Ian Peck.
