Famed British-Argentine actress Olivia Hussey has passed away at the age of 73. The cause of death is presently unknown, but her social media account indicates she died peacefully at her home.
Hussey rose to fame as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet”. She received widespread acclaim and international recognition for her performance.
Subsequently she became known for her work in horror films including the lead role in the original slasher movie – 1974’s “Black Christmas”. She played the mother of Norman Bates in the telemovie “Psycho IV: The Beginning,” and Audra in the “IT” mini-series.
Another notable turn was playing the compassionate Rosalie Otterbourne, daughter of Angela Lansbury’s Salome Otterbourne, in 1978’s Christie adaptation “Death on the Nile”. She also voiced Talia al Ghul in both “Superman: The Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond” along with lending her voice to multiple “Star Wars” video games.
She also had a key role in 1973’s remake of “Lost Horizon,” played Mary in the 1977 mini-series “Jesus of Nazareth,” Ione in “The Last Days of Pompeii” mini-series, and post-apocalyptic foreign thrillers like Japan’s “Virus” and Australia’s “Turkey Shoot”. Her final onscreen role was 2015’s “Social Suicide”.
The actress was famously agoraphobic. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and subsequently went through periods of the cancer’s remission and return. She was married three times and leaves behind three adult children.
