The Insneider is reporting that hot off the acclaim for his “Nosferatu” remake, filmmaker Robert Eggers’ next project is rumoured to be a new take on the classic 1986 fantasy feature “Labyrinth”.

The outlet indicates Eggers will write and direct the film for Sony Pictures and the Jim Henson Company.

Jennifer Connelly starred in the original as a teenager who has to navigate a fantastical maze in order to save her young brother, kidnapped by a goblin king (David Bowie).

George Lucas produced, Jim Henson directed and Monty Python member Terry Jones penned the original which has become a cult classic in the years since its release despite being a box-office failure.

Attempts have been made to revive the property over the years with “Guardians of the Galaxy” co-writer Nicole Perlman penning a spin-off in 2016 while Maggie Levin (“Into the Dark”) was working on a sequel in 2020 – neither version seems to have gone beyond development.

“Nosferatu,” which was budgeted at $50 million, is expected to gross $42 million domestically by end of Sunday after five days of business.
