The two major live-action “Batman” films currently in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures have both been delayed.
Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” has reportedly been delayed again – this time pushed back a full year from October 2nd 2026 to October 1st 2027.
The sequel, which was first announced in 2022, has taken time as Reeves has been working hard to perfect the script. It now is reportedly targeting filming in the third quarter of 2025, and is also potentially dropping its current ‘Part II’ title (a new one hasn’t been selected yet).
DC Studios chief James Gunn has weighed in on the news, saying on Threads that:
“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
That’s not the only Batman film that got an update though. Filmmaker Andy Muschietti appeared on California Secreta podcast and says the “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” movie has been delayed as well. The film was never locked in for a date, but now it seems it will be further back than anticipated.
The “IT” and “The Flash” filmmaker indicates that he may make another film before he gets to work on the DCU’s new “Batman”: “I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.”
