Electronic Arts has reportedly rejected a proposal for a fourth entry in the “Dead Space” video game series by developers who worked on the 2008 original.
Original creator Glen Schofield directed the survival horror game, Bret Robbins was its creative director and Christopher Stone was animation director. All three recently spoke Dan Allen Gaming (via Resetera).
During the interview, Schofield said: “We tried actually, you know, the three of us yeah, we tried Dead Space 4.” Stone added: “All three of us sat there and wanted to do it.”
Schofield said those discussions took place this year, but EA rejected them flat:
“Well we didn’t go too deep, they just said no, we’re not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah, and you know, we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further, and we respected their opinion you know, they know their numbers and what they have to ship and all that.”
Stone adds that the “industry is in a weird place right now” with people “really hesitant to take chances on things”. But still hopeful, adds: “maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it.” Schofield indicates he has some ideas cooking.
Motive developed the remake of the original which launched to much acclaim in 2023, but reports earlier this year suggested lackluster sales had killed plans for any further remakes or sequels. Motive then became a studio serving development of the “Battlefield” franchise.
