The past day or two have seen rumors that Anya Taylor-Joy is being eyed for a role in the upcoming fourth “Spider-Man” film at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Fans have long speculated that Black Cat is a possible character for the film, and thus Taylor-Joy is likely being eyed either for her or this franchise’s version of Gwen Stacy who might also be introduced.
It’s all highly speculative, but “Spider-Man” franchise producer Amy Pascal was asked directly about the Taylor-Joy/Black Cat talk at a recent media event. She tells ZachAniff:
“She would be fantastic. She’s amazing, [but] we’re not quite at that stage yet. There’s a lot of fantastic female characters but I can’t talk about all this.”
The comments arrive as there has also been conflicting reports about the potential returns of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the next film with Sony Pictures’ Tom Rothman and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige holding differing opinions on the matter.
The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez reports now that both studios “want this film to be a team up movie in the way that Marvel produced Deadpool and Wolverine” with the outlet’s sources saying Maguire and Garfield will return with ‘larger participation’ than they had in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are working on the script for the film with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm. The movie will shoot next Summer ahead of a July 24th 2026 release.
