Monkeys are cute, and fun and remind me of certain humans I work with. Nothing could go wrong if you had a monkey unless it was an evil monkey! This is a redband trailer, so it’s NSFW.
Well of course it’s evil, it’s a Stephen King story. The official plot is:
When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.
The Monkey stars Theo James, Elijah Wood, Osgood Perkins, Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, Sarah Levy and Christian Convery. Perkins is also the writer and director.
I have to say, I’m a bit of a fan of Perkins’s work. The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House are very good and genuinely creepy, horror movies. His latest, Longlegs, was one of the best movies of the year for me.
James Wan is producing The Monkey, under the banner of Atomic Monster. Wan said that the short story, by King, is one of his favorites and he’s pleased to have Perkins direct it.
There is a full article in Entertainment Weekly and they also posted some images from the movie.
I think that shot of Maslany doesn’t have any special effects in it. They made her watch the twerking scene from She-Hulk and that was her natural reaction. Thank you, thank you, make sure you try the steak.
The Monkey will be in theatres on the 21st of February.
