A new rumor has emerged that “Stranger Things” and “The Whale” breakout Sadie Sink is the frontrunner to play X-Men mutant Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jeff Sneider (via The Hot Mic podcast) broke the report, indicating that the character could debut as early as 2026’s “Avengers: Doomsday” which is why the potential casting talk is coming up now.
Sneider stresses that things are still early and could change as casting ramps up for ‘Doomsday’ ahead of filming early next year. He adds that he’s very confident in his source though.
If true, it would mark the first piece of new X-Men casting for the live-action MCU and would also suggest the casting for the X-Men will go quite young (Sink is just 22).
Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner played the character across four of the Fox “X-Men” films each – Janssen in the original trilogy and ‘Days of Future Past’, Turner in the four younger X-Men films that began with ‘First Class’.
Sneider also suggests Marvel Studios may be eyeing a November 2027 release for the first “X-Men” film – the movie arriving six months after “Avengers: Secret Wars” hits cinemas May 2027 and kicks off the ‘Mutant Saga’ that will replace the outgoing ‘Multiverse Saga’ which ends with ‘Secret Warts’.
No director is attached to the solo “X-Men” film as yet.
