A new feature piece at THR has gone into predictions for 2025 from a group of industry experts and one of the most interesting take aways from the piece is who they suggest could emerge as a favorite to play James Bond.

The actor? None other than Josh O’Connor. The 34-year-old British thesp is in the right age group and has been on a steady climb since he began appearing on screen in British TV works like “Ripper Street,” “Doctor Who” and “The Durrells”.

He broke through in 2017 with Francis Lee’s acclaimed “God’s Own Country” and followed that with a strong turn as Prince Charles on “The Crown,” and roles in “Emma,” “Mothering Sunday,” “Lee,” “La Chimera” and most recently Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” earlier this year.

O’Connor will be seen alongside Daniel Craig in the next “Knives Out” film “Wake Up Dead Man” releasing in 2025. The pair recently participated in an Actors on Actors interview for Variety comparing notes playing the male leads in a Guadagnino film in 2024. They also touch upon the Bond films.

The speculation comes as rumors of “Kraven: The Hunter” star Aaron Taylor-Johnson being in the running seem to have petered out with The InSneider recently indicating he’s out of the running. O’Connor is physically more like the Bond of the Fleming novels (slim 6ft build, dark hair, blue-grey eyes) and certainly has the acting talent for it.

Producer Barbara Broccolli has the final say as to whom plays the part and so far she and fellow producer Michael G. Wilson haven’t indicated when such a decision will be made.
