Paramount Pictures is moving forward with “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” the studio setting a Spring 2027 release date for the next entry in the family-friendly franchise.

The order comes ahead of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” hitting cinemas tomorrow. The title is on track for a domestic opening weekend of $55-60 million along with drawing the best reviews of the franchise so far (and by a good margin).

The film also includes two post-credits scenes with the mid-credits one already drawing a lot of conversation as it introduces more than one character previously unseen on the screen.

The first two films earned a combined global box office total of $725.2 million and have driven over $180 million in global consumer spending from home entertainment rentals and digital purchases.

The films also inspired a spinoff Paramount+ series, “Knuckles,” which came out earlier this year and wasn’t so well received due to its lack of focus on the title character.

Jeff Fowler has directed all three of the “Sonic” films so far with the cast including Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Keanu Reeves as the voice of the creatures while Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Lee Majdoub, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore star.
