So, while everyone is waiting for the Superman trailer to drop later today, and as more and more from that movie has been teased in the last 48 hours, somebody is still thinking about DCs other crown jewel. Batman.
Matt Reeves has spoken to Variety, and he has confirmed that the script is now being finalized and things are getting ready to go for the sequel to his 2022 movie. He confirmed:
“Yeah, we’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year.”
Official scheduling hints at a May 2025 start of filming, but with pre-production having already been underway for some time, kicking off around early spring. This means they will already know who the villain is and be talking to agents about availability right now.
He was similarly taciturn about The Penguin season 2:
“Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season.”
With the DCU about to explode into life, and this version of Batman being an Elseworlds project along with The Penguin, it still remains unclear exactly how much life there will be in this particular universe.
Overnight, a version of a main theme dropped which many on the internet got all excited about. This was by composer Benjamin Squires. The Squires’ effort made a pretty powerful statement with the integration of Williams’ classic theme.
However, the music from this new movie is by John Murphy, not Squires, so the theme is likely to be more like the choral music heard on the motion poster and the 30-second teaser for the teaser than the theme currently circulating online that many are saying is the new theme.
Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow kicks off filming in January, and Lanterns starts shooting for TV in February. Creature Commandos has already premiered on Max.
DC Studios is suddenly the busiest place in Hollywood.
