Apple TV+ has landed a high-profile drama series currently going by the title “Bananas” and in early development.
Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas are set to star and executive produce the show while David O. Russell is attached to direct and executive produce for Fifth Season.
Carolina Paiz (“Orange is the New Black, Narcos”) is writing and executive producing the series with story details being kept under wraps. Gena Konstantinakos also executive produces.
“Bananas” would mark de Armas’ English-language series debut following a strong film career in recent years, She will next be seen starring in Lionsgate’s “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina” opening in June next year.
Isaac most recently starred in Marvel’s limited series “Moon Knight” for Disney+ and “Scenes From a Marriage” for HBO. He recently played Doctor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and shot Julian Schnabel’s “Hand of Dante”.
Russell is next set to direct the Amazon MGM Studios film “Madden,” an origin story about EA’s successful “Madden NFL” video game franchise with Nicolas Cage starring as football icon John Madden and Christian Bale co-starring. That project will shoot early next year.
