FX has cancelled its critically acclaimed Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow-led spy thriller series “The Old Man” after two seasons which finished airing in October.
Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, Bridges starred as veteran and former CIA operative Dan Chase who kills a home intruder and goes into hiding.
The second season sees Chase and former FBI assistant director Harold Harper (Lithgow) working together to recover Chase’s daughter, Emily (Alia Shawkat), after she is kidnapped by powerful Afghan tribal leader Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban).
Amy Brenneman, Jacqueline Antaramian and Gbenga Akinnagbe also star. The show achieved strong viewership in its first season, but the second season saw a drop in numbers after being two years off the air.
That’s not the only cancellation news today. Netflix has cancelled musical comedy series “Girls5Eva” after three seasons in total.
The first two seasons streamed on Peacock from 2021 to 2022 when Peacock opted to cancel the show. Netflix swooped in to renew the series for a third season which aired in March this year.
Meredith Scardino created and Tina Fey produces the comedy about a ’90s girls group that reunite and attempt to revive their careers after they get an unexpected second chance.
Despite good reviews, hopes that the show would hit big on Netflix failed to materialise.
