Universal Pictures has announced that the “Wicked” sequel has been rebranded – it will no longer be “Wicked Part Two” but will now be titled “Wicked: For Good”.
As the title change has been made before the film hits disc or digital platforms, it’s not clear as yet if the ‘Part 1’ creditation on the film’s title card in the feature will be removed for the home video release.
The film, which was shot simultaneously with the first film throughout 2023, will adapt the second half of the stage play which includes songs like “For Good,” “No Good Deed,” “As Long As You’re Mine” as well as two new songs written for the film.
Editing on the movie was paused during most of 2024 in order for director Jon M. Chu to finish post-production on the first film as well as doing press commitments. Post-production on it resumed last month.
The full cast is back including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp, Ariana Grande as Galinda/Glinda Upland, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond and Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard.
The second film will tie in more with the classic story of Dorothy’s arrival in Oz and the consequences for everyone. The first teaser for “Wicked” released back in February included brief scenes from the sequel – all subsequent trailers this year stuck to scenes from the first part.
“Wicked: For Good” releases in U.S. cinemas on November 1st.
