Pixar’s upcoming original animated series “Win or Lose” has reportedly cut a transgender storyline in one of its later episodes accoring to THR.
The series follows a co-ed middle school softball team named the Pickles in the week leading up to their championship game.
Each of the eight episodes center on the off-the-field life of a character and their point of view, with episodes covering players, parents, coaches and umpires.
The trade indicates the only real change was the removal of several lines of dialogue that referenced gender identity with the decision reportedly made by the studio several months ago.
A spokesperson for Disney provided the following statement:
“When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”
Disney’s film empire has seen a resurgence with Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” this past summer grossing $1.7 billion globally to rank as the top-grossing animated film of all time. Disney Animation’s “Moana 2” meanwhile has earned more than $725 million to date.
“Win or Lose” was initially going to debut this month but wrapped dates with Pixar’s original animated series “Dream Productions” which has had far more mixed reviews than the “Inside Out” films it was spun-off. “Win or Lose” will now debut February 19th 2025.
