With the numbers in, Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter” debuted to $11 million domestically for its opening weekend and a further $15 million internationally – an outright bomb for the $110 million budget action feature..
Domestically the film had the lowest opening in the studio’s Marvel canon with its third place $11 million three-day total far behind even the lackluster $15 million domestic start for “Madame Web” earlier this year.
The three non-“Venom” Sony Marvel films of “Morbius,” “Madame Web” and now “Kraven the Hunter” have taken in just under $300 million at the global box-office to date on a combined total production budget of around $265 million.
Those are terrible numbers, even if “Kraven” is able to add another $30-60 million to that gross by the time it’s done.
In contrast, the “Venom” trilogy has grossed $1.83 billion from a combined production budget of just over $300 million. The two “Spider-Verse” films have grossed $1.1 billion from a combined production budget of around $200 million. Finally, the Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” trilogy has pulled in just shy of $4 billion worldwide from a combined $535 million production budget.
“Moana 2” dominated the domestic box-office with a further $26.6 million, bringing its total up to $337.5 million domestically and $717 million worldwide. “Wicked” came in second with $22.2 million – pushing its domestic total to $359 million and worlwide to $525 million.
“Gladiator II” was fourth with $7.8 million which brings its domestic total to $145.9 million, and “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” debuted in fifth with a disastrous $4.6 million – though the film appears to have been essentially dumped by the distributor with little marketing.
