Bill Skarsgård (“IT,” “Nosferatu”) is set to star in Gus Van Sant’s true crime thriller “Dead Man’s Wire”.

The pair take over from Nicolas Cage and filmmaker Werner Herzog who were originally slated to star in and direct.

Set in 1977, the project is based on a true story of Tony Kiritsis (Skarsgård) – a former real estate developer who put a dead man’s switch on himself and the mortgage banker he felt did him wrong.

Kiritsis is demanding $5 million as well as a personal apology. The project marks Van Sant’s first film in over six years, he’s most recently been working in TV at the helm of multiple episodes of “Feud: Capote vs The Swans”.

Van Sant was originally slated to helm “Killing Gawker” starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Spring next year but that has been pushed back due to Damon’s commitments to Chris Nolan’s next film.

Austin Kolodney penned the film’s script with Elevated Films and Balcony 9 Productions producing. The project will shoot in early 2025.
