Former Sony Pictures chief turned producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that Greta Gerwig’s new adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” books will begin shooting in July next year.
Pascal confirmed the date in a recent interview with Deadline, adding that it is: “A very new take on Narnia, it’s all about ‘rock n’ roll’”.
No mention was made in the interview regarding plans for a theatrical release of title, which is being made for Netflix. Reports have indicated Gerwig has been voicing concerns about limiting the films to the streamer.
Another report emerged a few weeks aback suggesting Netflix had begun talks with giant screen distributor IMAX about the possibility for a Thanksgiving 2026 release – a date that a film that begins shooting in July 2025 could very well reach.
However, Empire City is claiming today that multiple studios have given strong opinions about IMAX screens being utilized for non-theatrical Netflix titles and then speculate that “the project is DOA and that Greta will exit soon”.
Netflix is expected to spend at least $175 million or more on the film which is the first in a planned number of movies that will adapt the entire seven-novel series. Previously. the first three published novels were turned into films and the first four were done for television.
