Actor Henry Cavill has offered an update on how his “Warhammer 40,000” TV show is progressing, confirming the show is now officially in development at Amazon Prime Video.

Additionally Games Workshop posted on its investor relations site that it has “reached a final agreement with Amazon” for the adaptation of the “Warhammer 40,000” universe “into films and television series, together with associated merchandising rights.”

They add that production processes in respect of films and television series may take a number of years.” Announced exactly two years ago, the project will see the former “Man of Steel” actor both star in and executive produce the series which Amazon has acquired the global rights for.

In his new post, Cavill says:

“My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world.

Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though — more to come in time!”

Warhammer 40,000 is the most popular miniature wargame in the world, particularly in the UK, and has spawned a large amount of spin-off media including board games and video games. The models in the game are a mixture of humans, aliens, and supernatural monsters, wielding futuristic weaponry and supernatural powers.

The story of the franchise unfolds in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is beset by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. War, betrayal, tyranny, genocide and destruction are death are a way of life for trillions of individuals and dozens of races across millions of planets.
