Don’t expect another solo “Deadpool” film anytime soon according to star Ryan Reynolds in a shared interview with Andrew Garfield for Variety.

Reynolds debuted the character in two standalone films at 20th Century Studios before jumping into the MCU this year and splitting the limelight with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

His next appearance at Marvel has yet to be confirmed, but Reynolds says it’s very likely that his Wade Wilson will show up in a supporting capacity in someone else’s film rather than lead a project:

“I see Deadpool as a supporting character much more than he is a main [character] or at the center. We center him sometimes because they want, that’s what they want. But you can’t center him unless you take everything away from him. You have to create a situation where he’s so much the underdog.

I don’t think I can do that again. If he comes back, I think he’s going to be in someone else’s movie. Channing Tatum is so excited to play Gambit, I would happily be the fifth banana in his movie or anybody else’s.”

He adds that he feels the character works so well in terms of “scarcity and surprise” and so isn’t going to be pursuing another one hard – especially as he has four kids now and doesn’t want to miss their lives.

He also wanted to make sure “Deadpool & Wolverine” worked as “a complete experience instead of a commercial for another one” and is unlikely to do another if it is all about being one small part of a larger story.

“Marvel‘s Deadpool & Wolverine” is now streaming on the Disney+ service.
