Jeremy Allen White, the star of FX’s acclaimed series “The Bear,” has officially scored a role in Lucasfilm’s upcoming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” feature.
The Insneider broke the news with Deadline subsequently confirming it, saying the two-time Emmy winner will provide the voice for the role of Rotta the Hutt in the feature.
In “Star Wars” lore, Rotta the Hutt is Jabba’s son. Kidnapped by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano rescued him and returned him to Jabba.
The character appeared in “The Clone Wars” film released theatrically in 2008 and effectively introduced the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” TV series which launched in 2008.
However that version was set decades before so the character will likely be quite different here. The part is said to be a substantial role as well, not a glorified cameo.
Filming wrapped on “The Mandalorian & Grogu” the other week after months of filming that began in July in California. The wrap comes 18 months ahead of the film’s planned theatrical release on May 22nd 2026.
White joins a cast that currently includes Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian and Sigourney Weaver in a supporting role. Otherwise no other actors have been announced, though it has been revealed the film boasts 54 cast members along with 3,500 background extras.
The character of Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios from the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” will appear.
