Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for the second season of its supernatural eco-thriller “The Rig” premiering January 2nd – arriving exactly two years after the first.

Iain Glen, Martin Compston, Emily Hampshire, Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Mark Addy, Molly Vevers, Abraham Popoola and Stuart McQuarrie all reprise their roles from the first season for the new run.

The first season took place onboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig off the Scottish coast. The rig is enveloped in a mysterious fog that cuts off all lines of communication as members of the crew begin to be ‘taken over’ by something from below the surface.

In the second season, the surviving crew arrive at a new secret offshore facility called the Stac, nestled deep in the extraordinary and deadly landscapes of the Arctic Circle.

Here, the trapped crew must deal with the emotional and physical fallout of the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, and contend with swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world’s ocean.

The series is created by David Macpherson and directed by John Strickland, who executive produces alongside Derek Wax. The first season drew mixed/positive reviews but did good enough numbers in its first month to warrant a second season.

The entire six-episode run of the second seaosn will launch on January 2nd.
