Disney’s “Moana” sequel is on track for a second weekend of $55-60 million, the highest gross any film has ever seen in the post-Thanksgiving weekend which is often a dead zone.

The previous record was “Frozen 2” which made $35.1 million in 2019, a number “Moana 2” will easily beat. That’s not the only water mark the film beats, the movie’s second Friday haul looks set to be around $11-12 million – pushing the movie past the first film’s domestic total of $248.7 million.

The movie’s second weekend is set to fall around 57-60% from its opening weekend take of $139.7 million and both it and “Wicked” are on track to pass $300 million domestically by the end of this weekend.

“Wicked” took in a third Friday of $9.25 million for a third weekend looking to garner around $31.7 million, down by 61%. “Gladiator II” is headed for a $12.3 million third weekend, down by 60% with that film sitting on a domestic total of $132.5 million.

The Indian film “Pushpa 2 – The Rule” did big business on its Thursday opening day with $4.5 million, beating “Moana 2” for that day. It’s expected to drop fast with the Friday-Sunday total looking to be around $5.6 million – battling with “Red One” at $5.5 million for fourth and fifth place.

Paramount’s re-release of Chris Nolan’s “Interstellar” is doing well, that title set to take in $4.8 million for the three-day – meaning a very strong $28,900 per screen average. Finally, A24 has had a rare misfire with Kyle Mooney’s “Y2K” which is headed for a $2 million opening.
