In October came the news that “Rebel Ridge” director Aaron Pierre had been cast as Green Lantern John Stewart opposite Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan in the upcoming DC Studios series “Lanterns”.
Pierre has now spoken about being cast in the role, telling ComicBook.com that he’s been doing ‘extensive’ research to play Stewart and is taking the job very seriously and respectfully:
“What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people… So far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”
The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan co-star in the series which is being co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. James Hawes is directing the first two episodes.
Gunn has previously indicated fans can expect the series to launch sometime in 2026, possibly around the same time as “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” which arrives in June that year.
