A reboot of ABC medical comedy “Scrubs” is officially in development at ABC and 20th Television. The original series ran for nine seasons from 2001-10 on NBC and later ABC.

Series creator Bill Lawrence is returning for the project which has been teased and discussed by Lawerence and the show’s cast at various TV panels over the past few years, but it’s only now official.

Lawrence has a rich overall deal at Warner Bros. TV which complicated things, but Warners has reportedly allowed him to work on the Scrubs reboot – the caveat being he won’t serve as showrunner should the project get a series order.

No other deals for the reboot, including the other cast or off-camera talent, have been revealed as yet. The original show followed young doctors learning on the job at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Neil Flynn and Ken Jenkins starred.

Lawrence also co-created “Ted Lasso” which has been teasing a fourth season, and has delivered both “Shrinking” and “Bad Monkey” for Apple TV+
