We reported recently that the new Harry Potter series is looking to cast Mark Rylance as Dumbledore. There has been no confirmation about whether he was cast, but everyone involved seems keen.
One of the other big roles in the Potter series is Professor Snape. Famously played by the late Alan Rickman in the original movies. So, who are they thinking to play Snape in this new TV series?
Paapa Essiedu of course. Essiedu is know for Gangs of London and I May Destroy You. I don’t know the second one, but from what I’m read, was very good.
Snape plays a pivotal role in Harry Potter’s life. Why? I don’t know, I have seen the Potter movies but just thought they were OK. I do remember that Rickman did an amazing job like he always does.
Esseidu said about the possible casting:
“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”
This new Harry Potter series is described as:
“…a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.”
How faithful is the book? I’ve never read the book, but I was under the impression that Hogwarts wasn’t all that diverse.
No one has been officially cast in this new series, which is aiming for a release in 2026. The producers have said they are aiming for a ‘diverse’ cast, which we are all very surprised about in this day and age.
