A couple of recent series with high-profile stars just scored renewals. Paramount+ With Showtime has chosen to renew its spy drama series “The Agency” starring Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere and Jodie Turner-Smith.

The second season pickup comes less than one week after the series debuted on Paramount+ With Showtime on November 29th. In that time, the series has racked up 5.1 million viewers worldwide – making it the most streamed new series debut in Showtime’s history.

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios says: “The success of The Agency is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ to its next phase of growth. This achievement is a testament to the creative power of the team”.

George Clooney, Jez Butterworth, Joe Wright and David Glasser executive produce the series which is a remake of the French series “Le Bureau des Legendes”.

This one follows a CIA operative (Fassbender) who is pulled out of an undercover assignment and ordered to return to the agency’s London station. When the love he left behind (Turner-Smith) reappears, their romance rekindles, pitting his personal feelings against his career and real identity.

Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon and Reza Brojerdi co-star. Joe Wright directed the first two episodes.
