Getting a reputation as a deeply troubled production, Disney’s Snow White adaption has been a long time coming. Reshoots, changes in approach, VFX re-work, and pandemic delays all seem to have impacted the project.
The production decided that dwarves were non-PC, so re-christened them “magical beings”. Then, just when it didn’t need it, one of the stars seemed determined to alienate both fans of the original Disney classic and over half the voting population of the United States. Not a smart move.
Still, like Thanos, it is inevitable. It shouldn’t really be that troubled. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. La La Land and The Greatest Showman composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are writing the new songs. Gal Gadot is reliable. Rachel Zegler did good work in West Side Story. It should be plain sailing with this crew behind it.
It suffered another, seemingly self-inflicted, setback over a week ago when the full trailer was released in theaters but not online. This led to poor quality cam copies flooding the internet and many people viewing it for the first time outside the control of Disney.
Well, now the full trailer is finally officially released, so you can see how shaping up.
The new Snow White (no dwarves) is set to land in cinemas on March 21st 2025.
