Quite a few years ago, former “Harry Potter” and “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Jason Isaacs auditioned for the role of Aslan in the prior “Chronicles of Narnia” films.

This week, he seems to have potentially let slip one of the books in the series that Greta Gerwig will be adaptation for her two-film screen adaptation at Netflix – a project that could be in production as early as next year.

There has been rumor Saoirse Ronan is keen to star, but no-one has been cast in any roles as yet. Before that was talk that rather than individual novel adaptations, the films would instead combine all the novels into one giant narrative.

Isaacs spoke with The Week recently, offering a list of his favourite books including the Narnia one – “The Magician’s Nephew” – that he hears will be making the jump to the screen:

“I loved all the Narnia books as a kid. When Peter was told he wouldn’t be coming back [to the land of Narnia], I understood something devastating about mortality. I picked [The Magician’s Nephew] because Greta Gerwig is about to make a film of it, which I can’t wait to see.”

The comment has gotten people suggesting Isaacs potentially knows something the rest of us don’t and he let it slip.

Though the sixth book published, “The Magician’s Nephew” serves as the first story chronologically in the series and is a multiverse-spanning tale as two children in 1900s UK find a wood allowing travel between worlds – along the way witnessing the creation of Narnia and ultimately being responsible for the creation of the wardrobe.

It’s one of the stories in the series that has yet to be adapted to the screen. Reports suggest there are currently talks between IMAX and Netflix for a potential theatrical release of Gerwig’s films.
