Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes has given his blessing to Oscar winner Cillian Murphy to take over the role “Harry Potter” villain Voldemort in the upcoming HBO TV series.

Fiennes first played the role in 2005’s fourth film “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” before reprising the part in subsequent films in the saga. Fiennes previously suggested he’d be up for returning if asked.

Appearing in an interview on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live to promote his new film “The Return,” fans asked him about the online rumor about Murphy taking on the part to which Fiennes responded:

“Cillian is a fantastic actor. I actually think that’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.”

The talk comes as “Bridge of Spies” Oscar winner Mark Rylance is reportedly being eyed by HBO to play Dumbledore in the franchise. Warner Bros. Television reportedly has reached out to gauge his interest in the project and his availability, but no negotiations have taken place as yet

No other casting information regarding other roles in the series have emerged. The talk comes as Warner Bros. Discovery indicated earlier today the series is likely being pushed to a 2027 debut.
